Content of the description
歐洲專利法規則42規範了說明書應有的內容，其實與多數國家一致：
(1)說明書內容應有：
(a)指明發明技術領域；
(b)引述申請人/發明人知道的背景技術，以利瞭解發明技術，並予以審查
(c)揭露發明技術，並其所解決的問題、解決方案與功效
(d)圖示說明
(e)舉例的方式，配合圖式，描述至少一個實施例
(f)明確描述該發明的產業可實施性
(2)應以上述內容與順序表達發明內容，除非，基於發明本質可以能更清楚瞭解的方式呈現

(1) The description shall:
(a) specify the technical field to which the invention
relates;
(b) indicate the background art which, as far as is
known to the applicant, can be regarded as useful to
understand the invention, draw up the European
search report and examine the European patent
application, and, preferably, cite the documents
reflecting such art;
(c) disclose the invention, as claimed, in such terms
that the technical problem, even if not expressly
stated as such, and its solution can be understood,
and state any advantageous effects of the invention
with reference to the background art;
(d) briefly describe the figures in the drawings, if
any;
(e) describe in detail at least one way of carrying out
the invention claimed, using examples where appropriate
and referring to the drawings, if any;
(f) indicate explicitly, when it is not obvious from the
description or nature of the invention, the way in
which the invention is industrially applicable.
(2) The description shall be presented in the manner
and order specified in paragraph 1, unless, owing to
the nature of the invention, a different presentation
would afford a better understanding or be more
concise.
