比如現在似乎還正在進步中的機器人，除了生產線的那種機器人（手臂）、保全機器人（用輪子驅動）外，人形機器人在日本已經發展很久，但技術似乎還沒有成熟到普及的階段。
比如汽車科技，到了現在在似乎看到無人駕駛的可能，不過這種想像已經在三十年前就有了，記憶中的霹靂遊俠李麥克是美國1982年的電視影集（wikipedia說中視1985年引進）。更早的話，有資料顯示當計算機科技發展之初，就已經有無人駕駛車輛的概念。
穿戴式智慧裝置簡單的定義就是穿在身上的電腦裝置，可以溯及1980年代的計算機手錶，我們當中應該有不少人擁有過，所以現在的穿戴式裝置概念並不新，只是更聰明而剛好有這個發展的空間。
行動電話的歷史早於30年前第一支公眾販售的「Motorola DynaTAC 8000X」（1984/03/13），當時一支賣4000美金：

很多科技發想很早，但是卻是需要更多科技的發展到一定的時候才能成熟，顯然（行動）網路的發展讓這些技術更好用而普及。
比如現在人手一台的智慧型裝置很容易操作的影音通話（video call），其中電話的科技（專利）可以溯及發現可以利用電波傳送訊號的年代，而第一件具有實用性的電話則如美國貝爾實驗室於1876年Alexander Graham Bell的第一件電話專利（http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Graham_Bell）：US 174,465
US174,465名為電報的改良（Improvement in telegraphy），電報為更早的技術，如果發展到語音通話，就如這件所描述，權利範圍列舉如下。
1. A system of telegraphy in which the receiver is set in vibration by the employment of nndulatory currents of electricity, substantially as set forth.
電報系統中用電流震盪作為接收器，接著附屬項界定出利用磁鐵感應電路，可以讓另一端電線索連接的裝置感應到的震盪，甚至在Claim 5提到利用空氣震盪承載語音或聲音。
2. The combination, substantially as set forth, of a permanent magnet or other body wpable of inductive action, with a closed circuit, so that the vibration of the one shall occasion electrical undulations in the other, or-in itself, and this I claim,'whether the permanent magnet beset in vibration in the neighborhood of the conducting-wire form simultaneously be set in vibration in each others neighborhood.

不過比較實際的概念開始於1964年4月20日始見於紐約萬國博覽會，距今剛好50年，讓人直接體會每秒30幀的影像電話通向迪士尼樂園，不久AT&T實驗室就將這個概念商業化。

AT&T的視訊電話：
從AT&T網頁找到「Picturephone」原型見於1956年，兩秒傳一張照片，1964年才實現了"Mod 1"影像電話，就如上述，之後於1970年開始商業化的影像電話，並自信地認為到1980年會生產百萬部，但是應該與事實不符，直到近年電腦網路盛行時才能普及。
